Project Overview
The scope of work at Lincoln Middle school was divided up into several phases. The first phase was the installation of four relocatable classrooms and new 6” fire sprinkler line to service the replacement of Building C project, which was completed in January 2011. The second phase included the modernization of the former library and rooms 218, 220, and 222. The rooms were renovated into four new classrooms, two science labs, and a shared prep room, which were all equipped to reflect the current district technology standards. The modernization began in April 2011 and was completed in December 2011.

The third phase replaced Building C with a new, two-story library and classroom building consisting of a new chorus room, six standard classrooms, two science labs, a shared prep room, storage, two sets of restrooms, and connection to Building E with a new elevator tower. The outdoor improvements on campus included an outdoor classroom with tiered seating and a new library entrance on 14th Street. Construction of the new building began in December 2012 and was completed in September 2014.

Both the Lincoln Middle School Modernization and New Construction Projects reflect Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) criteria through improved day lighting, improved air quality and natural ventilation, maximized energy efficiency, and reduced water use and storm water treatment.

Twenty existing classrooms were upgraded to the district’s new technology standards. The standard includes a projector and screen, document camera, DVD player, and a sound system with a wireless microphone. The school has been upgraded to 1Gpbs networking and campus-wide Wi-Fi. The telephone system was upgraded with a District-wide IP telephone system (VOIP). The new technology program allows for laptop computers in the classrooms: one (1) teacher and eight (8) students for each regular classroom while in the science rooms there are 16 laptops. Furthermore there are supplementary laptops via the computers on wheels (“COWS”). Each COW has 24 laptops. These COWS are shared among teachers to provide a total of 32 laptops in the classroom as needed. Wireless access points have installed throughout the campus to support the new technology.
